Poker

Saturday, November 27th, 2004

Well, we played poker today. 7 people, $5 each. Played for about 6 hours, and I was a winner ^^ Me and Tim were the top players (yes, Tubgirl Tim) and we decided to split the winnings because the game was going on forever. He had a bunch more chips then I did, but he always plays safe so I could probably bring him down chip-by-chip in 8 hours ;)

Anyway. Yeah, that’s cool ^^

Movie — Saw

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

I just watched the new Saw movie… Wow. If you’ve ever seen the movie Se7en, it’s kinda like that. Except, IMO, it’s a lot worse. I think I can actually say it’s terrible. Not in the sense of a bad movie, but whoever wrote it must have had very sick in the mind.

Basically, it’s about some sicko that takes people that don’t appreciate their lives for whatever reason (for example, a drug addict) and puts them into really bad circumstances. I’ll tell you one part, to make a point (it’s a small clip of the movie, but if you don’t want to know about it then stop reading).

He gets a guy who tried to slit his wrists and puts him in a room surrounded by barbed wire. He said that there was a door outside that would lock shut in a couple hours, and if he really wanted to live, then he’d have to cut himself some more. The guy tried to struggle through the barbed wire, and he was found dead with his flesh so ripped apart that stomach acid was found on the ground.

I think it was a good movie. Horrifying… Even I think it’s terrible, but I think it’s a good idea. Hard to explain it as a good movie but a bad movie at the same time…

Anyway, if you’ve got a weak stomach for that kind of thing, or can’t stand to see people helpless… Then do not see this movie.

Fedora

Monday, November 8th, 2004

I’m feeling extra geeky lately, so I’m going to install Fedora Core 3 (whenever I get some time, that is).

I think I’m going to set up an extra computer and install it so I can use it as a development server (leave it running for others to have access too), with no monitor. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll just use VMWare.

Site Widths

Sunday, November 7th, 2004

I’ve noticed that more and more sites are beginning to toss aside that no-horizontal scrolling rule for lower resolutions. Like CNet and AnandTech. Seems like widths of 1000 are becoming normal.

Browser Wars

Saturday, November 6th, 2004

With Firefox approaching 10% of the browser market, the browser war debates are reaching an all time high — especially on the tech sites and forums I visit.

IE still holds about 90% (possibly above, depending on what sources you look to), but FF is the first browser to threaten IE’s dominance.

I realize arguing about what browser is more 1337 then the other is plain stupid, I still like to know why anyone would use IE. Page rendering? No… Standards support? Definitely not… Features? Not that either… Then why? Are people just too lazy to switch? With all of the serious IE holes, and the time it takes to patch them, I would at least switch because of that. I mean, FF has its own share of bugs (which is acceptable, considering it’s still not gold yet), but the most serious of them are fixed fairly quickly.

So if you are an IE user — tell me, why oh why do you still use it? There are countless articles reviewing browsers, and there have been countless times where people have recommended to ditch IE (ditch IE plain and simple, to switch to any other browser — not only FF).

With the tech-savvy population, the stats indicate a percentage of over 20% of people use a non-IE browser. I wonder if the trend will catch on, especially with the rumors about a Google browser based off of Firefox.

Spam

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004

Well, it’s reached the point where Chroder.com is getting spam comments. I’ve put in some filtering to try and stop some of it, but if it get’s bad I’ll have to enable comment moderation. Most of the comments are on older submissions (I guess for Google bots to pick up or something), so I doubt you saw any.

*sigh*
