Graduated Today
Wednesday, October 11th, 2006Well I’m happy today.
Months ago I blogged about my co-op arrangement for getting my last 4 highschool credits, and I was happy then too. But when when this school year started and I tried to get in contact with my principal, who I was doing the co-op through, things weren’t looking so bright. There was a big mixup and the school kept saying I was supposed to be in classes. Since I work during the day, obviously this was somewhat problematic. So after a month of trying to get things all sorted out, I finally managed to get an appointment with the principal to talk about this.
I printed off all of the work that I’ve done for my job and business since these were the things that were supposed to earn me my credits. I walked in with a thick folder full of notes and after he flipped through them, he agreed that I’ve done enough to earn my 4 credits through co-op and gave them to me right there. He tacked the co-op on to my Computer Science class, and gave me the same grade I earned in it (92%).
So after a depressing month of thinking that I might have to come back for two more semesters, totally wasting this one, it is a relief to know that I got them — and in less time then I thought it would take. And 4 credits graded at 92% isn’t bad either
Pretty cool to be able to show off honors in English, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and this co-op on any applications I send out
Now to think about the scary future
I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do… I may just work for a year before enrolling into college (either way I’ll need to wait until next year). I’m lucky enough to have a great college right around the corner which has very good (and reputable!) computer science courses, but still not sure what I’ll do. Regardless, it is in the future so I have time to think it all over.
iMac Arrived
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006Well, the iMac has arrived
It came a couple of days ago, but been a bit busy so didn’t blog about it until now :-p I really really love it! Awesome design, looks totally sexy, and Mac OSX is brilliant
There are a couple things I need to get used to. I’ve already got pretty much everything down, but on the PC I used to do a lot of programming and used such key combos like CTRL+[backspace/arrow keys] and SHIFT+[home/end] to navigate/select text. On the Mac the key bindings are a bit different.
One of the first apps I downloaded was TextMate, and it is everything I thought it’d be
I was a big fan of EditPlus on the PC because I prefer simple editors when I don’t need an IDE. TextMate is like EditPlus in simplicity and efficiency, but like an IDE in features. After you get used to the keyword expansions, you can create a full HTML document in 30 seconds by just typing the first couple of characters of a tag and just tab expanding it etc. Very good app.
I’m already using the Mac more often then I’m using my PC except for work. I still have to get my prefered server environment (Apache, PHP and MySQL) set up and working on the Mac. So far I’ve encountered no program that I need or cannot get on the Mac. I do however have to say I do miss mIRC and FlashFXP. X-Chat for IRC is just alright, but I’m not liking the FTP clients available. That’s probably just because I’m so used to using FlashFXP… Floris says I’ll get used to using Transmit. We’ll see
Uhm, so yeah. Everything just works and is beautiful
I did take some pics, but they’re not very good. I was a tad more interested in getting the thing set up then taking pics to satisfy Floris’ and Disjunto’s geekiness
But if you wish to take a look, I’ve uploaded them: iMac Unveiling. The pics were taken in my living room, but it has since been moved up to my room/office. I’ll take a pic of my current setup sometime later when I’m not too lazy to go and find the digital camera.
